LfE 25: Swift time

21/05/2010

Hello!

Looks like it really has been a month since I last wrote! And what a busy month it’s been! Various assignments, deadlines, work with project and otherwise, workshops on new software, just so much…of everything has happened! I’ve seen quite a few pretty flowers bloom and wilt. Tulips so bright! Red, yellow…

You wouldn’t believe how hot it is here now. You cannot wear a jacket! I never expected any part of Scotland to be like this! But I’m thinking if I feel hot and sticky at 20 Celsius, how on Earth will I get used to Indian temperatures again?

The project really is at a fast pace. Far smoother and faster than before. Almost as far as to risk slipping and falling! But it is exciting too. I took my first scans today! Not of myself. It was a functional experiment where I asked the volunteer to tap and sense the fingers. It’s quite standard but I designed the paradigm so it felt very ‘my own’. I have the job (postgraduate review) on Mon and Tue. The HUGE blue file is nearly all read. I volunteered to show a 16 year old around in Mid-June for which I need to be disclosed [(!!) Of course I’m not a criminal! C’mon! 🙂 Oh well, paper work for everything seems to be UK’s policy. Most of us Indians will laugh our heads off about the things they have to write out in ‘Risk assessments’ for Health and Safety forms. Ridiculous. These people are so careful, they won’t survive in India. ]

And some really interesting lectures- one on synaesthesia, colours art and brain. Very cool! 🙂

I’m going to Skye today. Staying the weekend, trekking (only for the day) until Sunday. Going with my flatmate’s labmates who are my new friends. They work on Genetics and Virology in the building next to mine on this campus. Fun bunch 🙂 Two Malaysians, one half Pakistani half Fin (great combination) grew up in Sweden, some British people and Germans. My flatmate is Indian (she just got back from Germany last night!)

Preparing for the trip in the middle of all the other things that have been going on has been stressful but life feels so full that I’m glad time is just rushing past.

I’ll be home soon. Around 4 months left!! And I’m having many dreams about home, family, school, etc.

Hope all your lives are fulfilling too. Stay happy and healthy 🙂
