I present my studies for half an hour and then face questions from the committee and audience for the next half an hour or so. I have been practicing in front of my group and incorporating feedback so it looks pretty good now. My colleagues have been so helpful and sweet. I need to work on the smoothness of the presentation and do some reading for possible questions in the time remaining.
I think perhaps moving out of Germany for good is too much to feel. I have all these rays of kindness that have soaked into and nourished my heart. I want to find ways to keep coming back.
It is a mobile carnival of sorts with rides, shops, eatables and games. The place was full of bright lights, cool music and screams. It is a great place to go to watch people make the most animated expressions while on the rides.
Here are some photos of the neighbourhood. We went for a walk today after Maren’s Birthday-cake party. Maren is my flatmate’s girlfriend. She is here quite often so it’s almost like she is my flatmate too. She turns 24 today 🙂
..like they have punk-rock hair styles 🙂 But they are not very intelligent animals.
Gottingen itself was also quite pretty but I’m sure my impression was strongly influenced by the fact that I saw it on two lovely spring days with the sun shining bright and florescent green leaves peeping out of the distrustful trees.
Sometimes I feel restless and feel the need to fill up my life with impossible busy-ness. Oldenburg is a very slow city. Edinburgh´s pace was just right… No people here. No great events.. Feels blank and empty sometimes unless the mind is adequately preoccupied.
Most of Europe is experiencing an intense winter with temperatures hardly ever peeking above 0*C. The roads are icy and footpaths in front of those away on holidays are slippery. The snow is relentless. Stories about people stuck at airports evoke my sympathy now more than ever!
Germans also clear the footpaths in front of their own houses and shops. So even when it was snowy it was easy to walk around without fear of slipping on ice. The first two days were cloudy and foggy with older snow still frozen on the ground.
Winter is a strange season to start a new thing anywhere. Mainly because places seem most uninhabitable in this season. But here I am, sitting in mz new office, struggling with ?rebelling against this abnormal kezboard which has the z where the y should be and vice versa. And the ? and@ are in strange places. Don’t even ask about the apostrophes, colons, hiphens and slashes….!
