my first first-author paper got accepted a few weeks ago and published this week. I’m still waiting for a response to my second paper after resubmitting with revisions. And the third paper is being written right now.
Edinburgh still felt so familiar, like I had never left. I was happy to hear English all around me but have to admit I missed the German too. Edinburgh is such a great city with so many people from so many places, beautiful old buildings, not half as modern as my area in Oldenburg. Old in a cosy way. Catching sight of Arthur’s Seat and walking around campus and familiar areas, I felt reassured. Pleasant nostalgia.
We stopped at a Flamenco demonstration…open class where many people mimicked the graceful women on stage. The music was spellbinding and resonated to something deep and earthy in my heart… the voice was rich and the black curved dresses swayed as they danced and clapped.
Tonight I sleep in Bremen Airport to be on time for a very early morning flight to Barcelona where I will meet two of my close friends from my year in Edinburgh
After a long long time I find myself with homework! German, MATLAB, EEGLab, Presentation… the list goes on. Computers don’t work like Scotty or Spock gets them to on the Enterprise. You have to ‘use the keyboard’.
Because the design we planned was complex and my exposure to this software was minimal and only basic in my MSc, I am trying not to attempt flying through it… I am slowly reading the tutorials to understand it. This means though that things will be slow for a while to come.
I miss the comfort with which I used to be able to do normal things in India or the UK. I miss not having to ask people for help to do basic things like calling a helpline to fix something.
The day I used my first German sentence in context was at the post office when I had to ask how much something was. I think he thought it was very strange that I was So Super Pleased that I was asking that. But I rode home so happy that I was able to pull it off 🙂
Snow that lies on plants, weighing down in their leaves; Frost that decorates the various gymnosperms and winter plants, holly bright with red berries, large falling snow flakes, and snow laden rooftops in this Winter Wonderland.
It was essential that I trust them! They do this every day, don´t worry, I told myself.
