We stopped at a Flamenco demonstration…open class where many people mimicked the graceful women on stage. The music was spellbinding and resonated to something deep and earthy in my heart… the voice was rich and the black curved dresses swayed as they danced and clapped.
If you go deep enough into one thing, you will reach the infinity of existence within it. This is true of all fields. A musician touches the infinite connection when touched with inspiration. Tunes are given, just as words to an inspired poet. Given from where?
I couldn´t help feeling a little disillusioned about getting ahead in science. It seems that networking, having the right friends, is important wherever you go, in any field. And it sometimes results in being the final factor beyond qualification and ability. Professors get authorship in more publications just because they form a collaboration with some people even though they actually haven´t done any of the work for that study. The scientific community isn´t deviod of human nature. I don´t know what made me expect it to be. It will be a challenge to be in it without falling in line with these kinds of shortcuts. Let´s see what the following years throw my way.
This is one of the problems of Globalisation, or should I say, Westernisation, and the prevalent Euro/Ameico-centric worldview. We ought to be able, in 2012(!) to relate to more than this worldview. Gobalisation should result in a sharing and celebration of knowledge, diversity of culture and all possible frames of references and defies the current linierity of influence.
It is too difficult for a European to see India as one country when they understand it’s diversity is more at the scale of a continent – their continent. Every state in India is equivalent to a country in Europe, not only in terms of size but also cultural diversity, language, customs and identity. And … [Read more…]
