    Haikus don’t have 5, 7 and 5 words, but morae. A Japanese mora is a little different from a syllable. Basically, it’s a consonant followed by a vowel or just a vowel, with some exceptions like the single ‘n’ or the glottal stop, which also count as a mora. So, the japanese word ‘hon’ for book is ho-n and the word ‘chotto’ for a little is cho-t-to.

    For what it’s worth, I have no idea what an Elftan is.
